Birdie Fortescue Ltd Opened in Burnham Market in June 2014. Birdie’s interest in interior design and decoration developed during her 10 years of training – firstly with Percy Bass and then with Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler. The projects she was involved in, many overseas, included the sourcing and purchase of antiques to sit within these interiors. Her passion for antiques grew during this time and she left Colefax to set up her own business. She soon gained a reputation as a specialist antiques dealer of Continental antiques and decorative art. The pieces she sourced, primarily in France and Italy, all had the same simple yet sophisticated flavour being pale in colour and understated in form. This chic style complemented both traditional interiors and more contemporary interiors.

After 15 year of antiques dealing (selling mainly at antiques fairs such as the Fine Art and Antiques Fair at Olympia and the Decorative Antique Fair in Battersea in the UK as well as fairs in USA) including some interior design projects Birdie couldn’t resist undertaking, she put her business on hold to concentrate on her family.

Six years later and after a move to North Norfolk, Birdie felt the need to rekindle her passion for antiques and design. After much searching, she discovered the ideal property in which to set up shop – a converted warehouse with perfect proportions in the beautiful village of Burnham Market. The scale of the building inspired Birdie to broaden her horizons and combine her antiques with a range of unusual contemporary homeware.

The shop is an eclectic mix of both painted and polished antique furniture, all of which are united by the same understated elegance and charm, and contemporary homeware. The homeware is handpicked by Birdie from far-flung corners of the globe – she is always on the look out for unusual, practical and striking pieces which aren’t normally found in the UK.

The shop and its stock are continually changing and Birdie hopes that you will find something irresistible to take home!
